Review: THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT by Veronica Rossi

It's been months since Aria learned of her mother's death.

Months since Perry became Blood Lord of the Tides, and months since Aria last saw him.

Now Aria and Perry are about to be reunited. It's a moment they've been longing for with countless expectations. And it's a moment that lives up to all of them. At least, at fi rst. Then it slips away. The Tides don't take kindly to former Dwellers like Aria. And the tribe is swirling out of Perry's control. With the Aether storms worsening every day, the only remaining hope for peace and safety is the Still Blue. But does this haven truly exist?

Threatened by false friends and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night? In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and sci-fi elements to create a captivating adventure—and a love story as perilous as it is unforgettable.

EEEEEP! Sorry for my virtual scream, everybody, but I was so excited to read this. Thanks to my lovely sister Shelver who won it in a giveaway by the super nice Veronica Rossi, I was able to read this in late October/early November. It doesn't come out until January so I was even more excited when I realized I didn't have to wait a few more months. Happy dance!

Peanuts happy dance!

The story starts out with Perry anxious to see Aria again and them reuniting. His loyal companion Reef isn't too thrilled with Aria and Aria is wary of Reef...and basically everyone else in the Tides, as well she should be. Thankfully, there are a couple people who warm up to Aria so she's not utterly alone and of course, Roar is always by her side when Perry cannot be.

Since she figured out she was an Aud, we see how much Aria has developed her new-found ability. Personally, I would love to have that. I do understand though how it can be negative since Aria hears gossip that she really doesn't want to hear. Along with her ability, Aria grows up. Stronger and tougher, I loved cheering her on.

Now let me just hit a few characters on the way. Cinder and Flea, the dog, are ones I really liked. Cinder is still moody, but I had more sympathy for him. I just wanted to pet Flea and snuggle with him. Brooke and Wylan received insta-hate from me. Along with most of the people in the Tides, they twist everything around to make it seem like Aria is a horrible person because she's a Dweller and that Perry is a horrible leader. My sociology professor says, "Once a person has an idea or belief, they'll make sure it comes true." If you make sure you look for something, you will find it. That's exactly what the Tides did by nitpicking Perry's faults.

Then poor Perry is rendered to Aria so he starts to feel things she feels and is clouded in his judgement. But at least Aria's judgement wasn't clouded for long and she cleared up some things with Perry and made decisions that I was really proud of her for.

After Aria has her Marking ceremony, that's when things really go downhill. The poor lovers, Aria and Perry, are put to even more tests. I mean, how much do they have to go through? Soon after, Aria and Roar leave together in search of the Still Blue and Liv. They heard a rumor that she was with Sable willingly and you can imagine how Roar felt about that. Aria continues to talk to Hess (whether she wants to or not) and even Soren. By the way, did anyone else think the Smarteye in terms as some future video game? I guess with the Realms, it kind of was.

Back to Soren. My goodness, she forgave him quickly. My sister tweeted about that too and I couldn't figure out why she did it so easily. Hello, if someone just ruined my life and killed my best friend, it would take a while for me to forgive him. Technically, it had been a while, but it was the first time since she had talked to Soren. However, it is good she had because he became useful later on.

After that, it's too spoiler-y. If you, for whatever reason, don't like it from there, it gets good. Jealousy, stupidity, love, friendship, sacrifice, and heartbreaking moments all play into it. Keep reading! Although, I really don't get why you wouldn't like it, but that's just my opinion.

You all know I am a big fan of Perry. However at one point, I had to close my book and take a deep breath. I was sitting down by a walkway outside of my college when I really got annoyed. Take deep breaths. I closed my eyes and tried not to mutter, "Curse words, curse words, curse words" (a saying I stole from Daddy dearest). It was as if everyone walked by me was smiling and laughing at my frustration. I was basically the grumpy cat and they were the smiling dog. Naive people, do you realize where I am in this book? DO YOU?

And while I am a devoted fan of Perry, my heart beats for Roar too. Roar is amazing. I actually put him in my Top Ten Fictional Crushes and list the reasons there. Basically, he's just overall sweet. Charming, amazing friend, loyal, devoted to one girl, and makes me smile all the time. In this book, Roar probably won over Perry for me. Don't throw your book at the screen! I just had less annoyance with him and, well, how can you not like Roar?

Also, the Aether storms are worse than ever. Panic is growing and tribes are either destroyed by others or dying off. Everyone wants to get to the Still Blue, but Sable is keeping the answer close to him. I shivered a little when I really imagined how Aether storms are like. I still have a bit of confusion with it, but I do know it would be WAY worse than any hurricane or tornado that I can imagine. I mean, hello, Perry had an injured hand from just a little situation with it!

I did think the ending was a good, solid one. It isn't the last book, but at least I wasn't left hanging terribly. For me, Through the Ever Night left me with so many emotions. I really did love it and thought about it for the next couple of days. Thank you, Ms. Rossi!

Word to Parents: some language, I think some sexual content

How do you like Ms. Rossi's books? Who do you like better: PERRY or ROAR?

Just comment! Please?
