Top Ten Tuesday: Summer Books on My TBR

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
Do you know what makes this summer TBR more important than others? This is my last summer before I leave for the university in the fall. I need to maximize this time as best as possible.

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
I AM SO SCARED.

Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce
I loved Alanna so I really don't understand why I haven't continued.

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
Perfect summer read, here I come!

Landline by Rainbow Rowell
I can't stop fangirling. (Fangirling, ha)

A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Walker
Historical feminism, thank you.

Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman
A dystopian that I've heard recommended. I haven't read one in forever.

Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen
I've been on such a fantasy kick, this will be perfect.

Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
I keep telling my sister I'll read this so I'm determined to do so before I leave for college.

Evertrue by Brodi Ashton
I'm not sure I'm ready to finish this series.

Lady Thief by A.C. Gaughen
My one-word feeling about this: TERRIFIED.

What will you be reading this summer?

  1. Your opener for this post is slightly scary. D: As for the actual list, A Mad, Wicked Folly is SO GOOD. Like you said, it has history and feminism, which are two of my favorite things. :) I recently finished Evertrue and was kind of disappointed - the romance gets a bit melodramatic and one of the big plot points is way too convenient for my taste. It wasn't awful, though, and I'd recommend reading it just to find out how the story ends.

Happy summer reading! Be sure to get the most out of the next couple of months!

    1. Haha! I reread it and I realized that it actually sounds kind of threatening. Ew. I hate it when plot points become too convenient. It makes me dislike the book more.

  2. This looks like you'll have a great summer of reading. I really love Wild Magic and The Queen of Attolia is fantastic. Can't wait to read Ruin and Rising as well.

  3. I totally feel ya when it comes to reading as much as possible before college starts. I'm doing the same and trying to cut my TBR list (at least the released part of it) in half.

  4. I think you'll love A Mad, Wicked Folly. It was fantastic! I'm with you on being scared of Ruin & Rising. I'm going to read straight through on the day my copy gets here. I'm working to prepare myself for ugly tears when the Darkling meets his fate. O_o

    Great list!

  5. That's a lot of pressure for your summer reading list! I liked Landline and Mad, Wicked Folly very much. I wonder what you'll think of Landline. And you've got it exactly right - Open Road Summer is a perfect summer read!

    1. I just finished Landline and loved it! It was actually refreshing to read an adult book again.

  6. Cool picks. I really want to read Open Road Summer!

  7. Eeep. Summer! My tbr includes A Mad, Wicked Folly as an extra, but I do have Open Road Summer on my list :) LOOOOL! Your fangirling pun haha. Same here about Evertrue! Scared and don't want this to end. Though about Lady Thief.. Everyone says it's better than Scarlet so there is a possibility you'll love the funk out of it :)

    1. I actually really loved about Scarlet, but Lady Thief just SCARES me. I've heard about it, ugh.

  8. I keep looking through different summer TBR's, and I'm just rethinking my whole list. Okay, maybe I don't want to leave out the ones I picked, but is it too late to add more to the list? Of course I want to read Landline, and if everybody loves the conclusion to The Grisha trilogy, then I HAVE to pick up Siege and Storm, right? And if you ADORE Evertrue, then that means I should definitely pick up the Everneath series? SO MANY BOOKS. NOT ENOUGH TIME. It's so unfair!

Great picks, Summer! Off to add more to my TBR!

  9. Open Road Summer is also on my summer TBR list. And so is Siege and Storm (must finish this series). Evertrue is AMAZING, and I really want to read A Mad, Wicked Folly. Great list! I hope you get the chance to read all of these this summer. :)

    1. Yay! Another positive feedback for Evertrue. I'm so nervous for series-enders.

  10. I want to read Stolen Songbird too. I kept seeing it on people's lists last week.

AND YES LISTEN TO YOUR SISTER. The Queen of Attolia must be read.

    1. I KNOW I KNOW. Both books that she recommends. Reading QoA may be her birthday present this year, not gonna lie.

  11. So great to see an older book by Tamora Pierce on here! The Immortals series is very enjoyable – Daine's got a less bold personality than Alanna, but is in some ways more relatable, and the "wild magic" itself is pretty cool. And then there's Numair, of course <3 Would definitely recommend it!

    1. Yay, that's great to hear! I LOVE Pierce, but I'm ashamed that I've only read one series by her. I just really need to fix that.

  12. I really like your list! I've read ORS and it's so cute, I knew it was going to be good before I even read it.

  13. I'm scared that Ruin & Rising is going to end with the wrong ship, but I also can't wait to see what is going to happen <3 Stolen songbird is amazing! Evertrue was good and I love Lady thief <3 So many feelings! The queen of Attolia was fun (reminds me I need to continue this series too) and A mad wicked folly is high on my wish list. Happy reading!

  14. I'm about to start Ruin and Rising and I'M TERRIFIED. I'm putting it off and commenting on some posts instead XD

  15. Wild Magic! I hope you love it! Daine is awesome and I love Numair! I haven't read the last book, but the first three are good! (I haven't read the Alanna books, I think I need to try them eventually.) And stolen songbird looks good! I have not read any of Megan Whalen Turner's books even though I have been told to numerous times. I hope you have fun reading all of these books! :)

    1. Ha, that's exactly what another commenter said! READ ALANNA, JESSICA. I'll read Daine and you read Alanna, okay? ;)

  16. I'm looking forward to Ruin and Rising, but I have to read Siege and Storm first. It'll be nice to read them back to back! Though the fangirling over Ruin and Rising that is already happening is tough for me when I don't even know what happens in the second book yet! Enjoy your last summer before college! :)

    1. Oh man. The second book was great, Amy, especially since there's a new love interest in the mix. Thanks, I hope I will!

  17. THE QUEEN OF ATTOLIA. WHICH MEANS YOU'RE THAT MUCH CLOSER TO KING OF ATTOLIA. READ IT. Okay, sorry for the caps, but it's pretty much the best book ever. I can't wait to see what you think! Landline is one I'll be reading, too, and I hope to read the Lady Thief series eventually!
    Great list, chicka!

  18. I've heard really good things about Stolen Songbird. Fantasy kicks are a good thing, right? :)

  19. SO MANY wonderful books on this list, I have no idea where to begin. You're going to have a fantastic summer if these titles are any indication. I just finished and loved Ruin & Rising and Stolen Songbird is a favorite of the year. THE QUEEN OF ATTOLIA. That one obviously needs no explanation. But if you read that, you probably will want to read book 3 too, which is the BEST. Lady Thief is also a one of my most beloved of the year. And I cannot wait to start Landline! HAPPIEST of readings for your summer before college :).

  20. Don't be scared of R&R...you'll be fine, promise. :) Open Road Summer...DO IT! Yes for historical feminism via A Mad, Wicked Folly. I still need to read Stolen Songbird and fast, I guess, since the demise of Strange Chemistry. :*( I haven't even started the MWT series yet, so I can't comment on that. Evertrue...eh...it was okay, not my favorite finale, to be sure. But, YES, be terrified of Lady Thief. Actually, you might want to wait until you have the next book in your hands. ;0) I hope you get to all of these and that they're all amazing reads for you!
