Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Goals for 2013

Property of The Broke and the Bookish

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where bloggers who enjoy lists (like myself) can participate every Tuesday in making a list that goes in accordance with the topic for that week. Go to their site for more info, to participate, or to look at who else is participating!

This week is Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2013. In no particular order:

1. Go to an author signing/book conference.
Actually, my sister and I are already planning to go to one in February! I also would LOVE to go to BEA, but alas, that is out of my control. Up to my sister and parents.

2. Have more giveaways.
Unlike most teenagers, I actually WANT a job. However, unlike most parents, my mom keeps telling me to cool it since I already have too much on my plate. So right now, I'm saving for trips (like BEA) and pinching every penny. I resolve to be more generous though.

3. Give more books to people I know in person (including suggestions/borrowing).
This goes hand-in-hand with #2 above.

4. Participate in a reading challenge.
Or, you know, just make sure I read a minimum of 100 books this year.

5. Get on top of my reviews!
I have this awful habit of waiting too long to review a book (like I'm doing right now with one) or simply don't write a review because of the procrastinating. Read more. Review more.

6. Do an author interview.
Although it might be stressful, you don't know how much I want to interview someone, especially an author! But it's not really up to me. I have to boost those follower numbers!

7. Trim down my TBR pile.
By no means is it as big as others' piles, but there are a few books on there that have had a place on the list for a while. They have also been published for a while. I need to get on it (which is basically with #4)

8. Reach 500 followers minimum.
Most of you guys have probably skimmed over this or just gone down to the comments already to put in your link so you might not have even SEEN this. But really, although it's a major goal for me, I hate to put it on here. I hate to put anything about followers on here. Why? Well, if I don't reach any goal I have with followers, I don't want people to think, "Wow, she couldn't do THAT? She had a year." Oh well, I turn my cheek on those people.

9. Finish The Thief series.
If you know my sister, Shelver, at all, you would know that she's Megan Whale Turner's and The Thief's BIGGEST fan. Nonstop nagging to finish the series (I have book #1 as a bribe from her) and get on to reading The Queen of Attolia. I know, I know.

10. Make my blog better.
So broad and generic, right? Well, as I mentioned in my post about how pretty my blog looks yesterday, I mentioned how I want EVERYTHING on my blog to be way BETTER. Everything. I hope with some of these points on the list, it will make that happen. I also have to work on myself so that I can improve what I want to improve...if that makes sense.

Can I add a bonus one?

11. "Meet" new bloggers/readers/authors.
I put meet in quotes because I don't think I'll ever actually meet every single one of you out there. I DO want to actually meet some of you (it'd be awesome if it's this year. Hint, hint, at BEA), but I also want to read about new authors, interact with more readers, and visit new blogs!

What are some of your bookish goals this year?

  1. Awesome goals! I'm with you on #5, I'm already a little behind on reviews including a movie review of Les Miserables. I'm adding to goal #8 your blog is so pretty.

    1. Thanks! Ooh, how did you like Les Mis? Aw, thank you so much, Whitney! I'm pretty happy about it myself, just got it done :)

    2. I really liked Les Mis, although I'm not sure it would transfer well on the small screen it was such a large (but good) production. Also, I wasn't aware that the entire film was sung, I enjoyed it but considering my dad checked his email for 90 mintues probably isn't for everyone. Although, after reading your blogger confessions post I think you'll love it!

    3. I actually did watch it...and didn't like it. Wasn't for me or for my family, but everyone else I know loooooved it. Ooh well, I'm glad you read another post :)

  2. I definitely recommend taking part in a challenge - I did my first last year and it was great fun and exposed me to a whole world I didn't know existed. It would give you a chance to meet other bloggers and probably gain new followers too - so you'd be feeding a few birds with one seed. Good luck - I hope it's a great year of reading and blogging for you.

  3. Great goals, especially the 500 followers! I was slow to get into the reading challenges. Last year I sort of did them but not officially. Then I found The Classics Club and I had the bug. I've added a few extra but I do have quite a number of books that are cross-challenges books. Makes life easier. The point for me is to take that step forward and write down the titles and make a commitment. If it takes me two years rather than one--as it has--that's okay.

    1. Thank you! And that's a really good thought. I want to make a commitment and stick with it and be able to say I did it. Huzzah! Very encouraging comment so thank you, Vikk :)

  4. I'd love to go to the BEA too, it's been a dream of mine for a while (Books! New York!)! :) It's so cool that you and your sister are planning to go to an author signing/book conference next month! Hope you get to meet some great authors (and get lots of autographs)!

    1. Yes! I've always wanted to go to NYC, but then you add books in there? DREAM COME TRUE. I'm pretty stoked. She hasn't confirmed, but I already told her we are SO going. Thank you!

  8. You should definitely aim for #6. It's been my experience that authors are very responsive to bloggers. One of the first authors I approached for an interview when I started blogging was Siobhan Vivian. I was a huge fan of Not That Kind of Girl I wanted her to share her thoughts on books and writing. I was a little nervous sending me email to her (I'd just started blogging and had less than 200 followers). But the worry was needless because she was more than happy to participate. Don't be nervous or scared. The worst anyone can say is no.

    Good luck!

  10. I love going to author talks and book signings - hearing an author talk about their work, the writing process and their inspiration gives you a whole new perspective on books.

    1. One of the reasons why I so want to go! Not only do I get to have an authographed book of one of my favorite authors, but then I get to hear the mastermind talk about it!

  11. I love your goals! And really, doing author interviews isn't very scary. I've never had one ask about follower numbers or anything. They're just totally gracious and have never let me down. I say go for it when you feel like you want to do it, regardless of where your follower count is at. I hope you're able to get to some awesome events!
