Top Ten Tuesday/Wednesday: Popular Authors I Haven't Read

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
Yes, you're seeing this right. It's Top Ten Tuesday, but it's actually getting posted on Wednesday. Hey, it's been a REALLY busy last few days. But I couldn't just not do this topic. Maybe the burning shame will finally be released once I publicly acknowledge my readerly no-nos. A couple are intentional, but most are authors that I simply haven't gotten around to...yet.

J.K. Rowling
I CAN'T HANDLE THE SHAME.

I know, I know. I'm apparently missing out on some intense emotion.

Laini Taylor
I really do want to read this, but I just...haven't. Putting a hold at the library seems like so much work nowadays.

Fitzpatrick hasn't been around long, but she sure makes an impact with the contemporary lovers. Why I haven't read about an enjoyable YA family and romance yet, I have no idea.

Another popular series, another cone of shame to wear.

Now, I really do want to read Anderson's latest book (picture on the right). Actually, I'd love to read any of Anderson's books. Have I become a lazy reader?

The question to laziness is apparently yes since I won a hardcover of Etiquette & Espionage a long time ago and I still haven't read it.

I'm not sure if I should be sorry about this.

I'm always hearing praise for Bray and I just scored a cheap hardcover for The Diviners so maybe I'll finally know what they're talking about.

I'll just be over here, scolding myself.

Honorable mentions: Stephanie Meyer, Charles Dickens, Jennifer L. Armentrout, David Levithan, Beth Revis, Rick Riordan, and er, a lot of others. And I call myself a book blogger.

Does anyone else accidentally do a Top Ten Wednesday? What popular authors have you not read?

  1. Bhahaha, you must read the HP series. The movies are awesome, but I love the books so much. Daughter of Smoke and Bone is brilliant! The flashbacks dragged for me at the end, but it was so good and unique. My Life Next Door is sooooo adorbs. RICHELLE MEAD=MUST!!!!!!!!! Cassie Clare? Um. I'd recommend that you skip TMI series and read The Infernal Devices. So much better and full of feels. Need to read Schwab books myself:) Girl, you are way behind with some of my favorites, but as we all know, SO MANY BOOKS BUT SO LITTLE TIME. *sigh*

  2. HP!!! :O You should read the series! It's the best! My co-blogger hasn't read it either which is sad but I'm convincing her too :) I haven't read Richelle Mead either, but there's so much hype on VA I might have to check it out soon. Great list! :D

  3. I think everyone would agree with me if I say: HARRY POTTER :D

Gail Carriger's series is also very good (the Parasol one) I can't wait to read The Diviners, I've heard so many good things about her. I liked The Near Witch, so I want to read The archived & Vicious too. Daughter of smoke and bone is good!

  4. I haven't read half of the ones you listed either. So don't feel too bad. Although Harry Potter, and Laurie Halse Anderson are ones you should read!

  5. J.K. Rowling!! LOL now I don't feel so bad for not reading The Hunger Games. I hope you do read The Diviners. It's super entertaining. Also I Laurie Halse Anderson is amazing and Speak is like the ultimate YA. It's like the mother of YA :)

  6. I haven't read 9 of the authors you listed either! I didn't do this Top Ten Tuesday, but if I did, I could have easily have turned it into Top Fifteen Tuesday with this one. :p

    1. Definitely. It's so weird how so many "popular" authors are actually unread by people.

  7. Good to read that J. K. Rowling is on your list, too! It's good to know I'm not the only blogger left to have not read her books! :) I haven't read any of the authors on your list, either! I tried Etiquette & Espionage, but I wasn't able to get through it... I think I'm the only person who hasn't enjoyed it! (The author is a favorite of the youth librarian at my library.. I haven't been able to tell her that I didn't like it...) I got The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan from the library, and am probably going to try it in the next week or two! Hopefully I love it! If you try any of the authors books that you listed, I hope you love them all! :)

    1. Nope, you're not the only unicorn left! Ha, I always hate that. Not being able to tell someone you hated a book that they loved, it's the worst!

  8. I haven't read any of these author yet, including J.K. Rowling! Even though I asked everyone to not shame me so, they did anyway! Sorry people, I'll get to her and Harry Potter when I can! :)

  9. I don't know what's worse, starting the HP series and not finishing or not having start at all? I'm thinking the former is worse --which is where I stand. Oops! I need to make time to read installments 5, 6, and 7 at some point. Out of your list, I've only read City of Bones, and I wasn't impressed. The TMI series is one I've decided to drop, but I do hope you have better luck with it. :) Everything else? I NEED to read! Ugh. It's a phrase I say too often. I WILL change this though.

Great list, Summer! Maybe we can read some of these together? Maybe that'll give us the push we need? ;)

    1. So far, your the 2nd person who said that TMI wasn't worth it so now I don't feel too bad. I say it too, ugh.

  10. Huntley Fitzpatrick is amazing! I've only read My Life Next Door from her, but it's one of my all time favorite contemporaries. I also haven't read anything by J.K Rowling. I wasn't allowed to read the series when I was younger and now I just don't have much interest in it. I definitely really want to read Vicious and The Archived, though. Great picks :)

  11. I was going to say something about the series but then I saw that YOU HADN'T READ ANY HARRY POTTER BOOKS WHAT IS THIS I HAVE NO WORDS IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE PLEASE TELL ME YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIES AT LEAST AND RICHELLE MEAD DOES NOT COMPUTE (http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6htx58RJX1ru1wbho2_500.gif)

Anyway, haha. I forgive you ;)

  12. I wouldn't say I'm a lazy reader for not getting around to certain authors, but there's just SO MUCH bookish goodness out there that I just can't read it all! Daughter of Smoke & Bone is AMAZING, even for someone who doesn't like fantasy all that much. I'm just about to start the second one! And, um, Harry Potter is a MUST. I will confess that I haven't read any Melina Marchetta either -- I've tried to read Jellicoe Road twice and just couldn't get into it.

    1. I do admit that I tried reading Jellicoe Road, but I didn't get past the first chapter. I think it's because I wasn't in the right mood so I don't count it as a read yet.

  13. Oh my gosh, seriously there is so much awesomeness that you still have to read, I know you probably feel bad for being so behind, but look at it this way, at least you still have so much to look forward too, I only have like two books be Marchetta that I still need to read and I'm dying for Rowling to return to the Harry Potter series one day! I hope you get to tackle many of these great books this year! Great list! :)

  15. You're not missing out on much by not reading Stephanie Meyer, but you need to read the Harry Potter books! How did I not know that you haven't? I haven't read The Archived either *hides with you* but I loved Victoria Schwab's The Near Witch, so it's happening soon. Now I'll let you go off and get caught up on your reading. :)
